Nationl Finals Ski-Joring

During March 9th and 10th, the Red Lodge Fair Grounds were transformed in to a stage for the National Finals for ski-joring. I don't really know how the sport is scored, besides whoever is the fastest. But, I did have a fun time watching.

Ski-joring is a sport consisting of a skier, a horse, and a rider. The track is shaped like a U. The horse, and rider, would galop as fast as they could along side the track. While, the skier would hold on to a rope, maneuver around poles, and pass over jumps. On the track in Red Lodge, there were a series of 4 jumps. Each one taller then the last.

Most skiers made it over the jumps, some racking up considerable air time. A few skiers were not so lucky. Either they lost their grip on the rope or took a tumble. Luckily, there were not many crashes. Although I did see a few, including a horse and rider once. All the crashes I witnessed were fairly minor. Even through at least one skier had to see the EMT crew, most walked off unhurt.

What fallows is the pictures from my camera. I find that they have a better way of putting the whole thing in to perspective.

Talk to you later,
