Two Wheels, Four Wheels, no Wheels

Let it be known, that while I claim the title of River Rat/Runner, I also enjoy different traversing the dry land in search of new places and the roads less graveled.

To this extent, I have done much dreaming and drooling over different vehicles, skis, stories, photos, and experiences. I've also pushed my own comfort levels, and expanded my own story library with new experiences.

One of these new experiences was when I learned to ride a motorcycle.
Yeah, I grew up with my parents tell me about the dangers of ride a motorcycle. And, the earliest memory of my EMT dad, is when he applied his knowledge at a rather bad crash involving a motorcycle. But, the dream of seeing all the sights I can see, has never died. And thus, being able to travel on two wheels was been a delight.

While I've never set off on a world traveling adventure, or just a weekend one for that matter, I've had experiences and sights that I would never have gotten otherwise. Like the time I ran into a herd of cows on the highway. I doubt I was of any real help to the herdsmen. But, while I waited for a path to open up, I had a chance to enjoy an activity I never got to do. And, I get to enjoy the scenery without worrying about any suicidal deer run across my path.

I've also pushed my motorcycle through a town before. Ran out of gas. It was a good lesson in humility. And, it showed me that people come out of the woodwork to offer help. I was close to the gas station at the time, but I appreciated those who offered to help. It goes to show that no matter where you go, some one can turn up to help.

While a motorcycle seems to be conversation starter, I've had more people ask me about my truck and its tent.

Yeah, that's probably the strangest place to find a tent. But, it's not as rare as you may think. Overlanding, (self-reliant travel to remote places, where the journey is overall goal), is a way of life to many people. And while I may not have the most impressive rig, or the best gear, I still love spending time going places I've either never gone before, or returning to places I've visited before.

Not to forget, I also use my truck as a summer home, to stay closer to the river.

Sure, living out of a truck may not sound to appealing to some people. But, I've come to enjoy it. To me it's kind of similar to the Tinny House movement, if it's still going on. For a few months out of the year, I shave my life down to a few wants, and just the needs. It's refreshing. I only worry about food, water, gas, and if my sleeping spot is level. Sure there may be other things, but they come with the life style.

As for experiences, I always get the best views. It doesn't matter what time of day, my favorite is the twilight hours as the sun is setting, Mother Nature gives me the best. I've never had a bad morning and I've weathered some storms, but the experiences have made me into the person I am today.

Now, to get to new places and new experiences you don't need a set of wheels. All you need to do is to up one foot in front of the other. Yeah, start walking. Every so often, I'll take a afternoon walk and find a place I've never gone or I place I've been. Sure, living in the concrete jungle it can be had to find the open vistas, the rolling planes, or the saw toothed mountains. But even there, there is experiences and new places.

I challenge the reader, yes you, to get out in the world and have some new experiences. Push the comfort bubble a little, strive for a little adventure. So take a camera, a partner, a four legged friend, or just enjoy the moment with yourself. Got out there and enjoy.

Talk to you latter,
Yeti
